3 tips that turn a small bathroom into an oasis of well-being

Small bathrooms can be very confining and frustrating! If there’s not even a window, you can easily get a claustrophobic feeling. But that is no reason to give up! There are some easy to implement options that will make your small bathroom look bigger and make it your little oasis of well-being.

Tip 1: The right choice of colors

White or cream-colored walls or tiles are the first choice in a bathroom to make it look bigger. Unfortunately, this strategy does not work for every type of room. Bright colors are especially suitable in high rooms where a lot of light shines into the room. A dark floor covering is an ideal match for this initial situation. However, if the ceiling hangs low and no daylight is available, the light color has a rather cloudy and oppressive effect. In such a case, you are welcome to work with strong wall colors, which also provide more comfort. If you are particularly courageous, you can even work with a black tone. Contrary to popular belief, black or very dark wall color does not automatically make rooms smaller, but even larger. This is quite simply because they reflect less light and the contours of the corners of the room visually disappear.

 Tip 2: Less is more

In general, in small bathrooms you should not play with many different colors and contrasts. Thus, regardless of the wall color, beautiful natural or gray tones are suitable for the further design of the bathroom. This makes the room look tidy. It is also an advantage when it comes to decoration to limit yourself to a few details. Instead of many small things, it is better to limit oneself to one special object. This may then also be larger. Another trick is bathroom furniture that leaves the floor free. If this is not possible or you simply don’t like it, furniture with narrow legs should be chosen. Incidentally, it is a fallacy that in the bathroom, especially small fittings and furniture should be chosen. Large furniture also makes the room larger. For example, it is better to use a large chest of drawers rather than many small baskets or the like for storage.

Tip 3: Play with the light

A window that lets natural light into your bathroom is optimal to make it look bigger. The window optically opens the room to the outside and well placed mirrors can enhance this positive effect. If your bathroom is windowless, you do not have to give up at this point. With artificial light, which is well arranged, you can achieve just as good results as in a natural way. A good illumination requires a little more than a ceiling lamp. This alone rather ensures that the ceiling is optically pressed down even more. If possible, the lamps should be arranged so that the room is illuminated without shadows. Very well suited are wall lamps and indirect light, like our Arnea mirror cabinet. This one is especially suitable for small rooms and offers besides the classic mirror light also indirect lighting at the bottom edge. Through the mirror you automatically perceive the room as larger and it also offers enough storage space. Additionally you can distribute small mood lights in the room.
